Garage sale…or not

When it comes to Spring Cleaning, you might think Garage sale? …or not?

If you’re like me, those professional garage salers hurt your feelings. I hate how their noses crinkle up like it stinks when they examine the Little People Bus that I diligently cleaned and found even the puppy (you can tell how old am I) . I realize the bartering is a game but I just didn’t get the gene for it. The best part of the day for me was when the local charity came and picked up what hadn’t sold.

So now I skip the garage sale and inspire myself with the image of all of the garage sale items being re-used through thrift stores and charities. The idea of a child happily playing with the bus or an unemployed mom going to an interview in my retired work outfit’ delights me. Another favorite activity is to type into TurboTax my donation and see the little total change – it might be $20 on $100 worth of goods. I’m obviously not a tax attorney, and I might not even be right about the tax benefit being worth it. But I do know it is worth it to get any clutter out of my house that distracts us from our current goals and favorite activities, so it the idea of helping out someone less fortunate and getting a little tax break is all the motivation I need.
